Thank you for purchasing our products (or subscribing to our services) at boardowl.com („Board Owl“), operated by Board Owl AG.

1 - Refund policy

We offer a full money-back guarantee for all subscriptions on our website. If you are not satisfied with the membership that you have purchased from us, you can get your money back no questions asked. You are eligible for a full reimbursement within 14 calendar days of your registration, provided no Board Owl documents or registrations to further services have been downloaded respectively have been made, or introductions between yourself and another Board Owl member have been facilitated through our matching process.

After the 14-day period, you will no longer be eligible and won't be able to receive a refund. We encourage our customers to try the product (or service) in the first two weeks after their purchase to ensure it fits your needs.

2 - Services and liabilities

2.1 Core service

Board Owl provides a platform on which subscribers can register their profiles for the purpose of being matched with other subscribers or registrants in the interest of establishing contact to potentially lead to board or advisory board appointments or mandates. Board Owl does not provide recruiting services. Intelligent mechanisms are in place to establish matches with a high degree of relevance. Board Owl takes no responsibility for the veracity of information provided by its members, and may not be held responsible or liable for the performance or damages incurred by business agreements entered and work collaboration ensuing from an introduction made through boardowl.com. Background checks may be requested at extra cost through Board Owl from one of its partners.

2.2 Additional services

2.2.a - Education – Board Owl provides educational services to members of Board Owl and members and affiliates of affiliated partner organisations of Board Owl, online and in person. Educational services are not included in the membership fee of Board Owl unless specifically mentioned so in your membership tier, or mentioned in the description of a specific course. Board Owl also offers educational services in partnership with and delivered by external parties, such as select business schools. By purchasing such services you agree to the terms and conditions of that partner.

2.2.b - Resources – Board Owl provides access to a library of documents such as guides and contract templates. These are provided for informational purposes only. When establishing a legal contract you are advised to seek the support of a legal professional. Laws vary between jurisdiction and are subject to change, sometimes frequently. Accordingly, Board Owl takes no responsibility for damages incurred through the use of its document templates.

2.2.c - Additional services from third parties – Third-party companies may advertise or directly offer relevant services to members of Board Owl, often at preferential rates, on boardowl.com. When you procure such services you agree to their terms. Board Owl may not be held responsible for third-party services.

3 - Fees and subscription terms

3.1 – Membership terms

Membership lasts for 12 months from registration, and is renewed automatically should notice of termination not be given. Discount codes used upon registration are valid for the first 12 months‘ membership. Upon membership renewal thereafter, normal subscription rates for your chosen subscriber category and membership tier will apply (rates visible on boardowl.com).

3.2 – Services on a success basis (Companies)

Companies that sign up for Board Owl’s services gain access to its core offerings, including introductions to relevant individuals who may join their board or advisory board, as well as access to selected resources. If such introductions result in the appointment of a Board Owl–introduced individual, the company agrees to pay the applicable success fee for its tier within 30 days of signing a contract with that individual. Companies are responsible for keeping Board Owl informed of developments with introduced candidates and must promptly notify Board Owl of any confirmed appointment.

3.3 – Membership tiers and Fees

Individual membership tiers for individuals currently include 1) Owlet level (free, no matching), 2) Board Owl and 3) Gold Owl. Membership Fees are visible on the website (https://boardowl.com/how-it-works/individuals/) and may be updated from time to time, at Board Owl’s discretion.

3.3.a - Free Membership includes subscription to Board Owl’s newsletter and to some limited resources such as guides in Board Owl’s Education & Resources area. Some additional services such as educational masterclasses may be offered from time to time at the discretion of Board Owl, for which members will be notified in due course.

3.3.b – Paid Membership includes the benefits of Free Membership, as well as the listing on our profile database to be matched with suitable opportunities, and the additional full benefits available for members from 3rd party partner companies of Board Owl, and from Board Owl itself. The benefits can be found at the website’s Education & Resources area, with discounts applied when logged in. Board Owl level and Gold Owl membership fees are indicated on the website and upon registration or renewal (please note that the placement fee is of € 45 while the remaining amount represents the content fee). Board Owl reserves the right to amend these service offerings and fees as the platform continues to evolve.

3.3.c – Registration for organisations and companies

Organisations and companies may register under one of the following service categories:

a. Self-Managed:

  • Non-Profits: Free
  • Startups: CHF 1,200 success fee (+ CHF 900 for each additional role within the same calendar year)
  • SMEs: CHF 3,900 success fee (+ CHF 2,900 for each additional role within the same calendar year)

b. Enhanced Service:

  • Non-Profits: CHF 1,000 success fee
  • Startups: CHF 2,200 success fee (+CHF 1,500 for each additional role within the same calendar year)
  • SMEs: CHF 5,000 success fee (+CHF 3,000 for each additional role within the same calendar year)

c. Premium Service:

  • CHF 2,500 upfront fee + CHF 7,500 success fee per appointment
  • CHF 5,000 for each additional role within the same calendar year

Upon concluding an appointment of a board member or advisor following their introduction through Board Owl, companies agree to pay the applicable success fee within 30 days of signing a contract with the introduced individual, in line with the selected service category.

3.4.d – Assisted process: For highly confidential board member or advisor appointments, Board Owl offers an assisted process, whereby the technology and membership base of Board Owl is leveraged, with active management, execution and support by the Board Owl team. Costs for this service are EUR 10000 at registration, and EUR 10-20’000 per appointment. For a binding offer for your specific needs, please contact us.

Organisations & Companies enjoy the same benefits as individual members, however are restricted in their choice of educational courses provided by our select educational partners.

4 – Marketing

By using Board Owl, you agree, in the case of a successful introduction, to Board Owl publishing some information about the success to interested parties including but not limited to other members of Board Owl. You may be contacted with the request for an interview for press or marketing purposes which you are not required to give but we would greatly appreciate! Changing the tide to increase transparency in the board world and improving the success of smaller companies and of charities requires stories of success. And it will also raise your profile in the community and beyond.

5 – Termination

In the sad event you decide you no longer want to be a part of the Board Owl movement, notice of termination of any subscription must be received in writing (electronically to success@boardowl.com or through the Board Owl platform) 10 days or more before the subscription is to be renewed. Terminated Paid Memberships will normally be changed to Free Membership unless otherwise requested by the subscriber. Free Membership can be terminated at any time.
